Following recommendations from the 2007 GAO report, the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) is working to improve oversight of the title insurance industry. While escrow theft and regulating solvency of both title agents and underwriters were two main issues discussed during the NAIC’s 2011 Fall National Meeting Nov. 3-6 in National Harbor, Ma., these issues will remain a priority of the NAIC’s Title Insurance (C) Task Force in 2012. ALTA Urges Congress to Restore Conforming Loan Limits Through 2013

With Congress still debating to set new limits on federally insured loans, ALTA joined 10 other trade associations to call on House and  Senate conferees to restore higher conforming loan limits through the end of 2013. The letter said restoring the loan limits is not just a high cost area issue. Rather, the reduction of the formula from 125 percent to 115 percent will impact approximately 593 counties in 42 states. These include more than 100 counties throughout the Midwest, and more than 200 counties in the South. The average decline in non-high cost areas will be more than $64,000. “If...
